Meet Our Physicians

Laura J. Danz, M.D., F.A.C.O.G.

Dr. Danz earned her bachelor of science degree from Nazareth College in Kalamazoo. She then attended Wayne State University’s School of Medicine, receiving her medical degree in 1988. Following a four-year OB/GYN residency at Wayne State, Dr. Danz moved to Traverse City in 1992 and entered into practice with Grand Traverse OB/GYN. She and her husband, Tom, have two children – Maddy and Gus. A native of River Rouge, Mich., Dr. Danz loves the opportunities Northern Michigan offers outdoor enthusiasts; she enjoys jogging, swimming, water skiing, rollerblading, beach volleyball and cross-country skiing.


Don A. Good, MD, FACOG


After attending Wabash College in Crawfordsville, Indiana, Dr. Good, earned his medical degree from Indiana University Medical Center in Indianapolis, where he also served his residency. As a practicing OB/GYN for the last 34 years, Dr. Good is a highly specialized OB/GYN surgeon. He joined Grand Traverse Women’s Clinic after three years in private practice and his specialties fully complement our patient care. Dr. Good and wife Barbara enjoy a busy life with four children and eight grandchildren.



Timothy P. Madion, M.D., F.A.C.O.G.

A Traverse City native, Dr. Madion is a graduate of Traverse City Central High School. He received his bachelor of science degree from the University of Michigan and went on to earn his medical degree from U-M Medical School. After completing his residency at St. Joseph Hospital in Denver, Colo., he returned to Traverse City in 1999 and joined Grand Traverse OB/GYN. In 2001, he formed Grand Traverse Women's Clinic with Drs. Danz and Verplanck-Kanitz. He and his wife, Charity, have four children, Camille, Aimee, Anne-Marie and Carl. In his free time Dr. Madion enjoys spending time with his family, reading, guitar playing and running.

Douglas L. McKay, M.D., F.A.C.O.G.

Dr. McKay, originally from Decatur, Ill., received both his undergraduate and medical degrees from the University of Illinois. Following his residency with St. Joseph Mercy Hospital in Ann Arbor, Dr. McKay continued on staff at St. Joseph’s, before practicing at the University of Michigan Medical Center and Marquette General Hospital. He has also held clinical appointments with both U-M and Michigan State University. Dr. McKay enjoys golfing, skiing and fishing when he’s not spending family time with wife Libby and sons, Jack and Teddy.


Marcy D. Verplanck-Kanitz, D.O.


A graduate of Michigan State University, Dr. Verplanck-Kanitz attended MSU’s College of Osteopathic Medicine where she received her medical degree in 1987. She went on to complete an internship and her OB/GYN residency at Metropolitan Hospital in Grand Rapids. Dr. Verplanck-Kanitz moved to Traverse City in 1992 and was on staff at the Women’s Health Pavilion in Acme, Mich., before joining the Grand Traverse Women’s Clinic. She and husband Michael have three children, Arielle, Marc and Delin. Dr. Verplanck-Kanitz’s outside interests include arts and crafts, snowshoeing, cross-country skiing, hiking and biking.


Danette L. Wells, PA-C

Danette Wells, PA, specializes in women’s health and family practice medicine. She earned her master’s in physician assistant studies from Grand Valley State University in Grand Rapids, after she completed a bachelor of science degree in biology from Aquinas College, also in Grand Rapids. Danette has a combined seven years of experience in patient care, four of which are in family practice and three in ER practice. Danette is married with one son and truly appreciates the Grand Traverse area community - for working, living and raising a family.
